The total count of fatalities from the UPS cargo plane that caught fire and crashed has climbed to 13, per recent announcements.
Official's Remarks
While en route to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I was informed of a 13th person that passed away as a result of the UPS flight 2976 incident,” expressed the local official in a social media post. “My prayers are with the loved ones, companions and co-workers of all who were taken in this recently occurred disaster. We will overcome this collectively.”
Casualties Confirmed
An announcement from UPS listed the flight crew aboard the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.
“Our hearts reach out to all employee who has been touched and all in our community community – helping you and guaranteeing you obtain the attention and aid you need is our priority,” the organization’s message stated.
Inquiry Updates
Federal investigators revealed that the jet’s wing caught fire and an engine separated shortly after liftoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, leading to the aircraft to fall and erupt into a fireball.
The NTSB announced it is probing the jet’s service record, which was in the state for repairs several weeks prior to the accident.
Flight tracking data revealed the jet was on the runway in San Antonio, Texas from early September to last week.
“We are aware that this aircraft was there in San Antonio,” stated an official on the following day, not giving a specific period. “We will look at all elements of maintenance that was done, including the San Antonio period, straight to the day of the flight.”
Retrieval of Vital Evidence
The cockpit voice recorder and data recorder were found, and the power plant was discovered on the tarmac.
The recorders – known as data containers – were designed to withstand crash impacts and severe fire from blazes, and they appeared to be in one piece when found among the crash debris. Investigators intend to examining recordings from the black boxes.
The plane’s concluding data recordings showed an elevation of that level and a velocity of 210 mph before the impact.
Service History
Based on FAA files from 18 September, a fracture on a component within the fuel container needed maintenance.
Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it provides airframe maintenance for the carrier’s aircraft and runs a repair facility in that city, chose not to speak, but stated it would work closely when officials reached out it.
Operations Resume
Meanwhile, the facility operations resumed last night with its overnight or nighttime operation, representative Jim Mayer stated. Each of the three tarmacs at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also open again.
The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the organization’s most significant. The facility employs over 20,000 workers in the area, manages three hundred trips per day and sorts more than 400,000 parcels per hour.
Community Support
A gathering was organized on the night of 6 November by the local labor union, which represents employees at the Louisville airport, the organization’s largest shipping facility.
The union chapter, which stands for employees, started the memorial with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the approximate moment of the accident previously.
“This event was so unexpected, so unexpected,” the leader spoke to the crowd of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to part to each of those who we have lost.”
